This is the Oxford Diecast P-51D Mustang, a 1:72 scale diecast model aircraft finished in the markings of Captain Donald R. Emerson's fighter with the 8th Air Force at RAF Debden in 1944.
About this model
The P-51D Mustang was a long range single seat fighter powered by a Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin 66 engine and armed with six .50 calibre AN/M2 Browning machine guns. From late 1943 the USAAF 8th Air Force used the type to escort bombers deep into German airspace.
This model represents the aircraft flown by Captain Donald R. Emerson of the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, based at RAF Debden, Essex. It carries his personal Donald Duck nose art, the serial 413317, and VF-B fuselage codes. The silver finish includes the black and white invasion bands applied to Allied aircraft before D-Day, and the white star on dark blue US national insignia.
