The SAS was formed in 1941 under David Stirling and operated in the North African desert, with its main task being to infiltrate enemy lines and disrupt operations from the rear. The Jeep served as the unit's principal transport, offering better cross country performance than the Chevrolet trucks also used by the SAS, even though it carried a smaller load.
