About this model
No. 23 Squadron was the first unit to take the Mosquito to the Mediterranean theatre, where it was used for intruder sorties and bomber escort work over North Africa and Southern Italy. This model reproduces the aircraft's night fighter scheme, with dark grey and dark green upper surfaces over matt black undersides and nose panel. Serial DZ230 and squadron code YP-A appear in red, alongside RAF roundels with the yellow outer ring used for identification, and red "No Step" markings on the wing between the engines.
Wykeham-Barnes flew with navigator Flying Officer Geoffrey Ernest Palmer DFC, the pair accounting for 14 enemy aircraft destroyed and 3 shared. Wykeham-Barnes later reached the rank of Air Marshal, holding the DSO and Bar, DFC and Bar, AFC and OBE. The model arrives ready-built and presentation boxed.
