PRODUCT INFO
This is a Hobby Master Spitfire Mk.IX diecast scale model aircraft in 1:48 scale, finished as PT879, one of the Spitfires supplied to the Soviet Air Force and known as the "Russian Spitfire".
About this model
PT879 was built at Vickers Armstrong and delivered to Murmansk in October 1944, one of 1,328 British Spitfires supplied to the Soviet Air Force. It served with the 2nd Squadron, 767th Regiment before being lost during a training dogfight in May 1945. The wreckage was later restored by the Hangar 11 team, and that restoration provides the reference for this model's markings and finish.
The Spitfire Mk.IX replaced the Mk.V in service from 1942 and went on to become one of the most widely produced Spitfire variants, with over 5,665 examples built. It is also noted for recording the first Allied jet kill, against an Me-262, in October 1944.
